Power of Kandor: On successful BLOCK, Superman reflects all Basic Damage. |
Godfall Superman can reflect damage back to the opponent which can be very useful in Online Battle against basic attack heavy teams. In addition, Superman gains power with every reflected hit as well.
Strategy
Basic Attacks
Basic combo | Damage pattern (% of damage stat) | Total (including Combo Ender) |
---|---|---|
Light (Combo Ender) | 2% - 2% - 2% - (3%) | 9% |
Heavy | 4% - 4% - 4% | 12% |
Passive
Without gear, he will take a multiplicative 50% damage reduction from basic attacks upon blocking on top of the normal damage reduction (-25%; therefore he takes 37.5% basic damage overall when blocking). This doubly-reduced damage is simultaneously dealt to the opponent as purple reflect damage and like reflect special, grants power as if Godfall Superman has hit his opponent with a basic attack. Like Black Adam/Regime, his basic attack reflection can KO opponents if they are at critically low health. Also, his passive seems to round up damage done to him, and round down the reflected damage. While his passive states "successful" block, block-breaking basic attacks can be reflected as long as he was blocking when it lands. Power gained from his reflect is affected by power generation rate.
In single player, his opponent receives power both from landing basic attacks and taking reflected hits, resulting in incredibly fast power generation. In multiplayer though, since very little power is generated from being hit by basic attacks, this would be more advantageous to Godfall Superman, allowing him to gain decent power even while blocking (extra damage reduction and faster power generation, but doesn't work on specials compared to Wonder Woman/Regime).
A 461 hit is normally reduced to 346 (75%) upon blocking. With 3 pieces of 17% block gear, it is 55.5 (12%; rounding error causes both 55s and 56s) damage. Therefore, his passive's damage reduction stacks multiplicatively with block gear (block reduces damage to 75%, gear reduces it to 24%, and passive further halves it). The reflected damage will also be reduced accordingly.
Block and block gear's damage reduction is capped at 90% (e.g. an unblocked hit that deals 1000 damage could be reduced to 100 solely by block and block gear). After this, Godfall Superman's passive can be calculated additively with other damage reduction; for example, Shazam/New 52 reduces Justice League teammates' damage taken by 10%-25%. When blocking with full block gear and teamed with him, Godfall Superman takes 4%-2.5% damage from basic attacks.
Invulnerability on his opponent would prevent them from taking reflect damage from Godfall Superman. If Superman himself is protected with invulnerability, he will also not deal reflect damage. When relying on Astro-Harness to block his SP2, note there there is a large delay between the 3rd hit (unblockable freeze breath) and the 4th (throwing the explosive). The fourth hit would fall out of the Invulnerability period even when Astro-Harness is maxed, so it is recommended to block it. This long delay also forces him to deal some damage when most of the special's threat (the unblockable freeze breath) is negated by Invulnerability, denying him a power refund from Tantu Totem.
Gear
When geared with the Gingold Soda and the Killer Croc Companion Card EVOLVED, while blocking, he will not take any basic damage at all while still being able to reflect damage back at them.
Nekron's Scythe is a great gear for him as his SP2 has an unblockable hit that will freeze the opponent, allowing the final hit to deal greatly boosted damage.
Since power generation rate affects amount of power gained from his passive, any gear that increases power generation is a good choice for Superman.
Interactions
Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Superman. Having a card that "counters" Superman does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With
- Harley Quinn/Animated, Wonder Woman/Red Son, and Green Lantern/Regime: Their power generation boosts help Superman gain more power from reflect.
- Wonder Woman/New 52: She can give him power when using her own specials, allowing Superman to use his partially unblockable SP2 more often.
- Shazam/New 52: He helps Superman to receive less damage. Note that this will also reduce his damage reflection accordingly.
Good Against
- Characters with strong basic attacks.
- Superman/New 52: His powerful boosted basic damage will be reflected back at him.
- Batman Beyond/Animated: If his basic damage boost is active, he will be further punished when his basic attacks are blocked.
- Superman/Red Son: Same as the above, and he basic damage boost applies for his entire team.
- Deathstroke/Red Son and The Flash/Regime: Their increased speed boosts help Superman gain power faster from reflect.
- Nightwing/Batman Ninja: His partially unblockable SP2 prevent Batman Ninja characters from gaining power from its last hits.
Countered By
- Unblockable basic attack chance characters or gears: These unblockable basic attacks will not be reflected at the attacker.
- Ares: His SP2 can disable block for about 10 seconds, making Superman unable to utilize his passive.
- Bane/Luchador, and The Flash/Earth 2: Their notorious unblockable stun circumvents Superman's passive.
- Batman/Flashpoint: Superman cannot reflect Batman's heavy crit damage back at him, as blocking basic hits would nullify the crit anyway. Batman can then deal massive crit damage to Superman when he stops blocking.
- Superman/Blackest Night: The unblockable freeze will not affect any Blackest Night character on his team.
- Solomon Grundy/Earth 2, Killer Frost/Prime, and Killer Frost/Regime: Their power generation dampening will decrease amount of power gained from Superman's reflect.
Abilities
Here are Superman's abilities.
Ability | Classification | Description | Usage |
---|---|---|---|
Flying Punch | First Special | Superman throws out one of his most classic moves to utterly crush his opponent. | Quick Tap |
Frozen Delivery | Second Special | A powerful combo followed by UNBLOCKABLE ice breath and topped off with an improvised explosive. | Rapid Swipe, Target |
Kryptonian Smash | Super Move | Bang! Zoom! Superman's unrivaled might is revealed as he devastates his opponent. UNBLOCKABLE. | Tap |
His SP1, Flying Punch, can be chained from his heavy combo.
Frozen Delivery is the first special in-game to be only partially block-breaking (Harley Quinn/Arkham gives Arkham teammates a chance to break block on each hit which is not the same), followed by Killer Frost/Prime's Black Ice. Being a partially unblockable special, it has a 13.3% damage penalty (2/15, for whatever reason) instead of the normal 50%. Note this is separate from the above damage inconsistency (this is only the stated damage); 42.3% of his special 2 is unblockable. This percentage seems to increase as he gains levels, but very slowly. Strangely, unlike most specials, which makes you go into bullet time, this completely stops the scene. However, it is very slow outside of that. For the explosive part, during a test at 100% it is 1030, at 133% it is 1313 (which is actually 127.5%), at 200% it is 1888 (183.3%). Nekron's Scythe can be used to boost the damage of the last hit, since the enemy is frozen during his special.

Trivia
- His combo-ender was visually different from all other prior variants of Superman, although the later Superman/Injustice 2 shares his combo-ender.
- His combo-ender is also based off of the "Heat Zap" move in the Console Game.
- Godfall Superman is the only card in his batch (including Static, Scorpion/Mortal Kombat X and Batman/Beyond Animated) to be directly based on the console game.
- With sufficiently good block gear against an opponent with sufficiently low damage (e.g. the bronze Harley Quinn/Prime in battle 3), it is actually possible for him to block and receive exactly 1 damage while no damage is reflected.
- His artifacts are: Chest Armor, Boots, Belt, Cape, and Gloves, respectively.
- His challenge and the immediate following challenge repeats of Batman/Beyond Animated and Raven/Prime were all tied for the shortest challenge duration at the time of their airing, at two days. His challenge ran from June 2nd to June 4th, 2016; Animated Batman Beyond's challenge then begins on the 4th right after. However, all three were later surpassed by Lobo/Bounty Hunter's repeat.
- Previously, there is a bug that prevents the rapid swipe part of Frozen Delivery (the two punches and the block-breaking freeze breath) to get any increased damage from swiping more.
- Godfall Superman, along with Darkseid and Shazam, were often used together as an online defense team. While their passives are not very useful for online defense and they have almost no synergy with each other, their very high base stats will attract many attacking teams, as the matching system will try to match players against stronger defense teams, allowing you to gain more battle rating. This has since become obsolete due to later updates that introduced more powerful characters.
