A Status effect is an effect applied to a character other than the direct damage of a basic attack, special attacks, or super moves.
When a status effect is attached to a special attack, the special in question generally has its damage lowered in compensation. Exceptions are Static/Prime and Solomon Grundy/Red Son, whose Taser Trap (Special 1) and Dead's Blood (Special 2) respectively have no penalty despite being a Stun as well as Superman/Prime, whose Freeze Breath (Special 2) freezes targets at full damage.
Cursed[]
Any unblocked damage received, basic or special, will crit against the cursed opponent until that opponent tags out of the match. However, Supermoves CANNOT Crit, and Curse does not affect DOT either.
- Characters that can curse opponents are:
Damage-Over-Time[]
- Main article: Damage-Over-Time
Deep Freeze[]
Characters in DEEP FREEZE perform basic attacks at a greatly reduced speed, and are much easier to block and retaliate against. They also generate power 50% slower.
The following characters can inflict Deep Freeze:
- Green Arrow/Rebirth
- He has a similar visual effect on the end of his SP2 but it wears off immediately afterward and does not affect the opponent further.
- Killer Frost/Prime
- Killer Frost/Regime
Disable Special[]
Characters with specials disabled cannot use specials or super moves.
The following characters can Disable Specials:
The following gears can Disable Specials:
- Certain 3-star gears, such as the Silicon Carbide Batsuit can disable specials and Super Moves.
- The League of Assassins Adept Hood, however, cannot disable Super Moves.
Disabling some or all specials can be a permanent handicap in battles, and disable special on specials can be found on certain gear pieces.
Disable Gear[]
Gears' effects are nullified during battle.
Characters or gears that can disable gears:
Freeze[]
Freeze is similar to stun, however, it cannot be resisted at all except by blocking, and it does not interact with stun bonus effects such as Batman/Insurgency and Hawkgirl/Earth 2's passives or the Cloak of Destiny.
If a special both freezes and stuns (from a freeze special that applies gear stun), sometimes the character will be stunned instead of frozen, although stun-immune characters can still be frozen, while other times both effects apply.
If the freeze applies The Ibistick's burning effect, the burn will only start after freeze wears off, for the same amount of damage. Freeze will also pause various animations playing on the affected character.
The following characters can inflict Freeze:
- Green Arrow/Prime
- Green Arrow/Arrow
- Superman/Prime
- Killer Frost/Prime*
- Superman/Godfall*
- Superman/New 52*
Note: *These characters have a freeze in the middle of their Special 2, but since it is part of a special it has no real impact other than its nature as a block breaker.
- Boss version of Prison Superman in Bonus Battle 6 can utilize the Freeze Breath, though it is part of the Boss Specials Moveset.
- Previously Freeze keeps the opponent frozen until hit and the next hit deals double damage. These have been removed.
Invulnerability[]
Invulnerability prevents the user from taking any damage from basic attacks, special or super moves. It will also protect the user from all forms of status effects, except damage over time effects that can be applied while they are shielded and start affecting them after the invulnerability wears off. Bleed is an exception in that they will continue to damage the invulnerable character, but only at 1/6 of the normal damage. Passive-based disable special will ignore invulnerability, but gear-based disables need to hit and will have no effect.
The following characters can provide invulnerability:
- Green Lantern/John Stewart
- Who gets invulnerability: John Stewart and his teammates.
- How is it activated: Upon reaching the 20% health threshold.
- Superman/Injustice 2
- Who gets invulnerability: Himself.
- How is it activated: Upon tagging in his passive activates. When his opponent uses the first special and if he does not block, he gains invulnerability for the duration (he is immune not only to the special's damage, but also any status effects, and DOT both by the special and applied prior to the special).
- The Batmobile
- Who gets invulnerability: A Batman character using this gear.
- How is it activated: After Supermove activation for 3-5 seconds. (Depending on gear level)
- Astro-Harness
- Who gets invulnerability: Any user of this gear.
- How is it activated: Upon reaching the 100%, 50%, and 10% health thresholds, invulnerability activates for 3-5 seconds. (Depending on gear level)
- Ares/Prime's To the Death (block disable) and Killer Frost's slow are unaffected by invulnerability.
Power Drain[]
Power drain removes power from the affected character's power bars, preventing the use of specials. Unlike most effects, blocking only reduces its effectiveness, and block gear does affect the amount of power drained.
The following characters are immune to Power Drain:
- Shazam with Lightning Fury
- Lobo/Prime
- Static
- Hal Jordan/Red Lantern
- Batman/Arkham Knight with the power drain immunity buff selected.
The following characters can apply Power Drain:
- Aquaman/Regime
- Black Adam
- Green Arrow/Insurgency
- Green Arrow/Arrow
- Green Arrow/Rebirth
- Lex Luthor
- Martian Manhunter/Prime
- Nightwing
- Raven/Regime
- Raven/Rebirth
- (Tag-In Effect)
- Raven/Teen Titans
- Sinestro
- (except for his Green Lantern counterpart)
- Zatanna
- Deadshot/Arkham Origins (when tagged out)
The following gears can Power Drain:
The LexCorp Set's 2-piece effect reverse power drain effects on the user, granting them power instead.
Power Steal[]
It's basically power drain, but the users will also add the drained power to their own.
Characters:
Gears:
Regenerate[]
Character recovers health over time.
Cyborg/Prime and Cyborg/Teen Titans can also regenerate health on tag-out as a part of their passive.
Slow[]
Slowed characters perform basic attacks at a greatly reduced speed, and are much easier to block and retaliate against.
The following characters can cause Slow:
Snare[]
Snared characters cannot Tag-Out.
The following characters can cause Snare:
- Hawkgirl/Prime
- She snares opponents upon tagging in or out. Her own tag cooldown reduction does not affect snare.
- Jessica Cruz/Rebirth
- Her SP2 will apply this effect when accompanied by one other Green Lantern character.
- Lobo/Bounty Hunter
- He prevents his opponent from tagging out as long as the burning effect of his SP2 is active.
Stun[]
Stunned characters cannot take any action, including blocking and tagging out. Batman/Insurgency's basic attacks deal greatly increased damage against stunned opponents.
It is not possible to have combo enders on a stunned opponent, except for Static/Prime.
The following characters are immune to Stun:
The following characters can cause Stun:
- Luchador Bane
- Batman
- Cyborg
- Deadshot/Suicide Squad
- Hawkgirl
- Martian Manhunter/Prime
- Solomon Grundy/Prime
- Static
- The Flash/New 52
- Green Lantern/New 52
- Joker/The Killing Joke
- Zatanna
- (self-stun only).
- Batgirl
- (all versions) has a visual stun at the beginning of their Special 1, Art of Deception; but since it occurs at the beginning of the special, it only serves to trigger the Cloak of Destiny's effect.
