Mortal Kombat X Scorpion
Rarity Base Stats Price Unlock
Gold 1,200/1,000 262,000 Challenge Mode, Survivor Pack, Challenge Booster Pack, Special Challenge Booster Packs, MKX Scorpion Bundle, Aquaman Celebration Pack, Shazam Celebration Pack, Joker Celebration Pack, Phantom Zone reward (Elite)
Passive Reborn Spectre: Reaching 200% Damage on a Special Attack makes its DAMAGE-OVER-TIME damage automatically CRIT. Bonus 8% HEALTH per promotion.

Mortal Kombat X Scorpion can be considered as a great improvement over Scorpion/Mortal Kombat, with decent stats and a powerful passive. The ability to Crit on DOTs damage makes him perhaps one the best DOTs user in the game and can tear down even the most tenacious opponents very easily.

He can be unlocked through his Challenge Mode. Otherwise, he can be randomly found from the above packs as said, but neither will unlock him for direct promotions.

Strategy[]

Basic Attacks[]

Basic Combo Damage Pattern (% of damage stat) Total (including Combo Ender)
Light (Combo Ender) 2% - 2% - 2% - (2%) 8%
Heavy 4% - 4% 8%

His light combo ender will inflict additional burn DOT, dealing 1.65% of his damage over 5 seconds. His heavy basic combo only does 2 hits but is not compensated in damage like Shazam or Doomsday/Prime (it only does 4% + 4% of damage stat, as opposed to 5% + 7%).

Passive[]

If achieving 200% on a special, his DOT from his specials will crit. This includes innate DOT from the special itself and DOT from gears such as The Ibistick. Other damage over time effects applied by Scorpion will also crit while the crit damage over time effect is running (even DOT from his combo ender). Damage from crit DOT is huge, as DOT can't be blocked. Scorpion is one of the best characters to spend crit damage augments for because of his guaranteed crit. The Bleed on his SP2 can further empower the crit DOT, dealing massive damage to the enemies, especially with gear DOT that deal damage based on % health.

Each of his promotion gives him 8% bonus health, similar to Deathstroke/Arkham Origins and Superman/Injustice 2. This counts as health boost (similar to Lex Luthor/Krypto's passive) and will be applied in battle only, so in Online Battle he can face enemy teams with much lower stats at high promotion. At elite X, his passive grants him total 80% health boost, making him a very durable tank.

Gear[]

Because DOT from gears can benefit from his passive, those gears are great options for him, especially The Ibistick thanks to the additional SP damage and power boost. LexCorp Helmet V2 can also increase crit damage, and with additional DOT on specials.

Quake Engine is perhaps the best gear for Scorpion, as re-triggered DOT will inherit the crit effect from the original ones. Against opponent with less than one bar of power, his crit DOT from specials (not gears) will receive another massive 50% damage boost, crippling the hopeless enemies.

Interactions[]

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Scorpion. Having a card that "counters" Scorpion does not mean it is always a good choice.

Good With[]

  • Lex Luthor/Krypto: His 30% increase to maximum health brings Scorpion's already high elited health to another level.
  • Hawkgirl/Prime: Her snare on tag-in prevents opponents from tagging to avoid MKX Scorpion's potent damage over time.
  • Catwoman/Batman Returns: Her +100% damage boost to DoT will greatly amplify Scorpion's specials, allowing him to deal a dangerous amount of damage.
  • Wonder Woman/Dawn of Justice: When Scorpion applies a DoT to his opponent, especially a critical one, if Wonder Woman immediately tags in after and performs a special, the DoT will be added to the team-wide life drain.
  • Martian Manhunter/Blackest Night: Similar to the above, as while his life drain phase is active, he can heal through his teammate's DOT as well.
  • Quake Engine: His critical DOT severely punishes enemies, even if they tag out. This essentially spelling doom on the newly tagged in character since the DOT can re-trigger.

Good Against[]

  • Characters with low health such as Bane/Luchador for they can be easily wiped out by Scorpion's powerful Burn and Bleed DOT - even more unrelenting when it Crits.
  • Slow characters, particularly Killer Croc/Arkham and Solomon Grundy: Since their basic attack speed is slow - even more so with Killer Croc's case - Scorpion can easily outpace them and deal massive Burn and Bleed damage.

Countered By[]

  • Since a max elite (X) Mortal Kombat X Scorpion has extremely high health, he can be countered by characters and gears who deal damage based on percentage. Examples include :
    • Raven/Prime: When reaching the right threshold, Raven can swap health with Scorpion, which can leave Scorpion at a very disadvantageous position.
    • Raven/Teen Titans: She can steal 25% Health and Power upon using Special Move, thereby she can tear through his massive health and preventing him from using his Special move.
    • Batgirl/Cassandra Cain: She knocks off 25% of his current health instantly when tagging in.
    • The Ibistick: The gear can burn Scorpion for 10% Health.
  • Batman/Arkham Knight: Batman/Arkham Knight's passive can allow him to have full immunity against Scorpion's attacks (DOT and crit), rendering him completely powerless against Batman.
  • Green Lantern/Red Son: Scorpion's DOT cannot crit against Green Lantern's passive, making him ineffective when Green Lantern is used on a full Red Son team.
  • Hawkgirl/Prime: Since Mortal Kombat X Scorpion deals very high damage over time, faster tagging will allow Hawkgirl's team to avoid much of his damage.
  • The Flash: Since all of Scorpion MKX's basic attacks are slow, it is easy for any of the Flash variants to interrupt the attack, thus more likely for Scorpion to receive damage than dealing them.
  • Deathstroke: Since all the Deathstroke variants are relatively fast and have longer reach with their swords, chances of Scorpion inflicting basic damage against competent opponents are minimal; moreover, Deathstroke/Red Son boosts the speed of attacks by Red Son teammates up to 15%, making it difficult for Scorpion MKX to land damage-over-time blows.
  • The Arkham Knight/Arkham Knight: Same goes for The Arkham Knight since both of his basic attacks have the ability to push the opponent far away and deal damage from long range at the same time, it can make Scorpion have a hard time dealing most of his damage.
  • Superman/Injustice 2, Batman/Dawn of Justice, The Flash/Reverse Flash, The Flash/Wally West Rebirth, Riddler's Staff, and Mother Box: Their passives and effects have a chance to dodge MKX Scorpion’s Specials, and subsequently avoiding the punishing Burn and Bleed DOTs if Scorpion achieves 200% damage from either his Flip Kick or Doom Slice.
  • Killer Croc/Arkham and The Merciless/Metal: Their passive can generate armor, and if they have enough armor, they can absorb Scorpion's fire and bleed DOT.
  • Aquaman/Injustice 2: His ability to turn all DOT back on the opponent with double the effect when using a special makes Scorpion a liability.
  • The Flash/Blackest Night: He allows all Blackest Night teammates to gain health and power from DOT, rendering Scorpion's passive useless.
  • Scorpion/Klassic: Not only does Klassic Scorpion have Burn immunity from MKX Scorpion’s combo-ender and SP1, he also renders the possible Crit on Burn useless. However, Klassic Scorpion can still be affected by the possible Crit on Bleed from MKX Scorpion’s SP2.

Abilities[]

Here are Scorpion's abilities.

Ability Classification Description Usage
Flip Kick First Special Scorpion finishes a vicious melee combo with a flaming flip kick. Rapid Swipe
Doom Slice Second Special Scorpion slices up his opponent multiple times. BLEED damage over time for 6 seconds. Target
The Netherrealm Super Move Scorpion transports his victim to the Netherrealm for a brutal beating. UNBLOCKABLE. Tap

Although not directly stated, his special 1 burns his opponent for an additional 4%-8% of his damage stat (prior to crit) for 6 seconds. His special 1's direct damage remains the normal 20%-40%.

Part of his SP2 deals fixed damage. It can be chained from his heavy combo. Only the last hit, which is a tap and shoot mini-game with a widened and easier to hit 200% damage like Deathstroke/Arkham Origins' SP1, deal variable damage. Because of this, and that damage over time specials usually have a 0.5x damage penalty, his SP2 only does 40%~60% of his damage stat, instead of the normal 60%~120%. The bleed damage deals 6% of his damage stat 6 times (36% total) at 100%, but at 200% it is a rather impressive 18% (108% total), for a theoretical maximum of 168% of his damage stat as total damage. The crit (+50%) and the bleed (+20%) (in the case of his SP2) stack multiplicatively for +80% damage. In the case of the Ibistick, this will increase its maximum damage from 10% of enemy maximum health to 17.4% (the crit period is very slightly longer than the bleed period, so the fifth hit will crit but would not benefit from the bleed).

Support Cards and Gear[]

Here are Scorpion's support cards and gear.

Card Classification Description Cost
Hanzo Hasashi Health 10% HEALTH BOOST. 3,000
Shirai Ryu Clan Damage 10% DAMAGE BOOST. 4,000
Netherrealm Energy 10% ENERGY REGENERATION. 5,000
Kama (Netherrealm Kama) Gear

50% - 70% DAMAGE BOOST to basic attacks

[Scorpion] 20% - 30% LIFEDRAIN chance on special 2

[Evolved] 35% - 45% CRIT chance on basic attacks

25,000 - 1,000,000 (upgrading)

Stats[]

These stats are the final damage and health levels at level 50, per Elite rank, with ALL support cards, and without any augmentations. With the 2.13 update, Elite 8, 9, and 10 have been added. The Elite 10 damage and health levels are for level 60 characters. Numbers with a * after them may not be accurate, please allow for a discrepancy of '+1/-1' damage or health due to rounding inconsistencies in game code.

Tier Damage Health
Normal 9,396 14,580
Elite I 14,094 21,870 (23,620 w/ passive)
Elite II 18,792 29,160 (33,826 w/ passive)
Elite III 28,188 43,740 (54,238 w/ passive)
Elite IV 32,886 52,488 (69,284 w/ passive)
Elite V 37,584 58,320 (81,648 w/ passive)
Elite VI 42,282 65,610 (97,103 w/ passive)
Elite VII 46,980 72,900 (113,724 w/ passive)
Elite VIII 51,678 80,190 (131,512 w/ passive)
Elite IX 56,376 87,480 (150,466 w/ passive)
Elite X 66,339 112,320 (202,176 w/ passive)

Due to the 8% Health Boost per Promotion, Mortal Kombat X Scorpion at Elite X (80% Health Boost overall) actually has the final Health stat of 202,176, making him more difficult to take down than what it seems from his 1000 base health.

Trivia[]

Crit on RSGL

MKX Scorpion dealing critical damage to Red Son Green Lantern. This has been fixed and he will no longer crit against Green Lantern's crit immunity.

  • The Chinese, Spanish, and the Italian versions of Injustice mobile had his passive description mention his burn on combo ender, which the English version lacks. However, they also state he extends this effect to his teammates (which is incorrect) and do not mention his bonus health on promotion. They are later fixed to be in line with English.
  • This Scorpion is based on his appearance in Mortal Kombat X.
