Reflect is an effect found in passive abilities and gear that returns damage to the opponent. Reflecting is typically characterized by purple damage text as well as a transparent shield for gear, or a unique animation for passive abilities.
It is deceptively complicated, as the descriptions are both highly ambiguous and occasionally inaccurate. Additionally, its properties may vary dramatically depending on the character or gear granting the effect, even if the descriptions are the same. The properties of a reflect provided by gear may also change as you level it up.
General Mechanics[]
The reflect ability is broken into two parts, a damage reduction and a reflection. A reflected hit will reduce the damage taken (calculated after the damage reductions from blocking and gear effects) and deal a percentage of the reduced damage to the opponent. Its damage reduction also stacks with other Damage reduction effects (such as Shazam/New 52's passive), allowing a character to take no damage from an attack when those sources stack to 100%.
For example, an SP1 that normally deals 1000 damage will be reduced to 500 damage when blocked. If that SP1 is reflected by a gear that applies a 40% damage reduction and a 20% damage reflection, the 500 damage will be further reduced to 300 damage, and 60 damage will be reflected at the opponent.
Reflect has a chance to activate on every hit of a special attack. Reflect abilities that require blocking can even activate on unblockable specials such as the SP2 of Ares/Prime, but on multi-hit unblockable specials like the SP1 of Deathstroke/Arkham Origins, it can only reflect the first hit.
Dealing a reflect hit counts for power generation as if you have struck them with a basic attack. This applies even if the reflect hit deals 0 damage (such as due to the incoming hit being low enough reflect rounds down to zero).
Note that damage reflected at the opponent is rounded down, so reflects that deal 100% of the damage received can occasionally deal 1 less damage to the opponent than you took.

Other[]
There are characters with passives that function similar to reflect, but with the following distinctions:
- When struck by basic attacks, they stagger the opponent.
- Damage recoiled is white, instead of purple, and does not have the reflect "force field" animation.
- Recoil damage does not grant extra power.
- While shared by some reflects, none of them reduce damage taken, all of them have 100% chance to take effect if active, and none of them require block.
Character | Damage Reflection | Damage Type Reflected | Other |
---|---|---|---|
Black Adam/Prime |

Black Adam/Regime | 200% (special 1) 75% (most others) |

The Batman Who Laughs/Metal | 50% | basic attacks, special attacks | requires selection of DAMAGE REFLECT tarot card |
Trivia[]
- The gear ability "X% chance to take no damage from basic attacks" will display the reflect shield, but the text that normally says "reflect" will say "deflect" instead.
- The Charged Disc is the only 4-star gear with a unique reflect ability (excluding Supercharged Green Power Ring, which is just a considerably weaker version of the other 4-star gear pieces).
- Black Adam/Prime, Black Adam/Regime, and The Joker/The Batman Who Laughs Metal have the only reflect abilities that do not display purple text for reflected damage.
- Reflected basic damage can KO opponents at low health.
