Passive Demonic Pact: On Tag-in, Raven siphons her opponent's power if it is more than hers.

If Two Rebirth characters are on her team, she receives 3x more power per critical hit.

Rebirth Raven is a character who was introduced in the 2.13 update. Being one of the most dangerous Tag-effect characters—and an enemy of both the League of Assassins Set and any character who boasts start-of-match power—she brings swift demise to overconfident foes bent on unleashing pain, especially with her very fast special 2, Empty Void, that can easily catch opponents off guard.

Strategy

Basic attacks

Basic combo Damage pattern (% of damage stat) Total (including Combo Ender)
Light (Combo Ender) 2% - 2% - 2% - (3%) 9%
Heavy 4% - 4% - 4% 12%

She has a combo ender different from other Raven characters, in which a demon appears to uppercut her opponent (similar to the Demon Stance, Meter Burn version of the console move Negative Mass). However, while it seems similar to Superman/Injustice 2's or The Batman Who Laughs's combo enders, they work differently; for the latter cases, the heat zap or the Savage Robin are considered projectiles that are launched at a certain point of their combo ender animation. Even if they are interrupted by enemy basic attacks, the combo ender will still be performed and can in turn interrupt the enemy instead. However, Raven's demon does not work this way. If she is interrupted, the demon still appears as normal but will not hit or damage her opponent.

Passive

On tag in, she reduces her opponent's power to zero if it is more than hers. She will then gain that same amount of power for herself. This will not work against enemies immune to power drain, most notably Hal Jordan/Red Lantern and Batman/Arkham Knight, due to their passives. It only partially works on Shazam/Prime during his passive, stealing one of his two bars of power and rendering him only able to use s1 instead of s2.

She may not steal power if she is tagged in too quickly after an opponent tags in, similar to the passives of Batgirl/Cassandra Cain and Bane/Luchador. There is also a short delay between her tag in and her power siphon, which makes it possible to use a special immediately as she tags in to expend power and prevent her from stealing it.

On the other hand, due to this short delay, if a character knocks out her teammate with the last hit of his/her special, forcing Raven to tag in, she can still steal her opponent's power (despite the fact that performing a KO in this manner would normally prevent tag effects like Bane/Luchador's stun). She cannot steal power during an enemy special; however, if the opponent has LexCorp Set, they can still gain power even if she tags in mid-special.

Block reduces power stolen by 25% (same as against basic attacks). Block gear (e.g. Charged Disc) can further reduce power stolen. Invulnerability or 100% damage reduction on her opponent prevents her from stealing power entirely.

While tempting, she has poor synergy with characters or gear that boosts power generation, which could give her more power than the opponent has and prevent the activation of her power siphon. A notable example of this occurs when equipped with the Tantu Totem: her passive determines whether she can steal power after she receives the Totem's power, reducing the effectiveness of her passive. Similarly, if she has Nightwing/Batman Ninja on her team, her passive activates after his passive's power drain on any teammate tag in, so it is harder to activate hers. The Master's Death Cart, however, grants its power after her passive, so is more suitable for her.

The second part of her passive is a little misleading; it is not triggered by Raven's crits, but rather by crits against her. "Two Rebirth characters" does count Raven herself, so only 1 other Rebirth character is required for the effect. In Standard Battle, Challenge Mode, and Breakthrough, being hit by a basic attack grants about 4% power. It is observed that instead of gaining "3x more power", she only gains 1x more (i.e. doubled), at about 8% per hit (slightly under 1 bar of power from taking 4 hits). Power gain from being hit from basics are also increased in Online Battle, but the normal gain is so low in Online Battles that it is still barely noticeable. Being hit by special crit also has boosted power gain, but it is impractical to not block specials in Online Battles; and you will rarely be hit by any crits in Standard Battle, Challenge Mode, or Breakthough, rendering the second part of her passive not very useful.

Gear

Due to how her passive works, it's recommended not to equip her with power generation gear. SP2 gear are recommended instead, such as Fourth World Godly Mace for damage or LexCorp Chest Armor V2 for Life Drain. A good combo is LexCorp Chest Armor V2 and LexCorp Helmet V2, since the Helmet can provide DOT and extra crit damage, and the Armor can help her heal on SP2 and perform basic attacks with a high chance to crit. The set effect will also reverse power drain, preventing her newly stolen power from being drained away.

Raven has strong synergy with Quake Engine. After stealing all of enemy's power, Quake Engine's damage boost will trigger on her specials, especially the powerful SP2. It can also re-trigger DOT from her equipped gear, especially from the Lexcorp Helmet V2 mentioned above.

Interactions

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Raven. Having a card that "counters" Raven does not mean it is always a good choice.

Good With

  • Batman/Prime: He can increase her damage by 25% as well as providing chance to stun on SP1, which will leave the enemies vulnerable to her power stealing passive.
  • Other Rebirth characters:
  • Hawkgirl/Prime: Hawkgirl's decreased tag cooldown allows Raven to tag in and steal power more often.
    • Hawkgirl/Regime: Hawkgirl can disable enemies' ability to use specials, allowing Raven to tag in and steal all of the unused power for herself.

Good Against

  • Characters and gears that can instantly gain a big amount of power: She can tag in and steal them all immediately.
    • Batman/Arkham Origins: Immediately tagging in whenever Batman tags in will essentially take his passive for her own.
    • Batgirl/Prime, Ra's al Ghul's Scimitar: Similar to above.
    • League of Assassins Set: She can "steal" back the power that the opponent gained from her teammate's tag.
    • Hal Jordan/Yellow Lantern: Same as above.
    • The Joker/The Killing Joke: Tagging her in after KO'ing Joker will allow Raven to nullify his passive on at least one of his teammates, and if she tags out and back in on the next person, she would make Joker's passive completely useless.
    • Wonder Woman/New 52 : Giving power to teammates is essentially gifting Raven with more power. If she is combined with Superman/Man of Steel in particular or anyone who benefits from her passive, she becomes a liability to the whole team.
    • Shazam/Prime: As he is only technically immune to power drain, Raven will still siphon a bar of power from him during his passive. She can also steal his power and prevent him from activating his Super Move.
    • Superman/Man of Steel: His passive works against him, as if he keeps power and the opposition survives, Raven has then opportunity to steal it, turning Superman into a liability.
    • The Flash/Blackest Night: If Flash is regenerating health and power from one of Raven's teammate's DOT, Raven can immediately tag in and steal the power Flash got from the DOT.
    • Tantu Totem: If she tags in after one of her teammates gets KO'ed, she can steal the power that the Tantu Totem generates for herself.
    • Harley Quinn/Arkham Knight: This is situational in that should the Joker be knocked out on her team and Raven is fast enough, she could gain 3 full power bars.
  • Characters and gears with increased power generation:
  • Sinestro/Antimatter: Force-tagging her in will allow her to drain his power, severely dampening his effectiveness when combined with the aforementioned League of Assassins Set.
  • Killer Frost/Prime: Because Killer Frost ensures Raven has low power generation, she can almost always be tagged in and steal power from opponents with Killer Frost on their team.
  • Batman Ninja Helmet: Normally a character using this gear is going to want to save power to use the gear to it’s fullest potential. Raven could tag in and steal the power for herself.

Abilities

Here are Raven's abilities.

Ability Classification Description Usage
Twilight's End First Special Raven unleashes wicked claw attacks onto her foe. Rapid Swipe (x2)
Empty Void Second Special Trigon's power flows through Raven's demonic energy strikes. Target,
Rapid Tap
Deadly Sin Super Move Raven flexes her demonic heritage and calls upon her father to aid in ending her opponent. UNBLOCKABLE. Tap

Raven’s SP2, Empty Void, can be chained from his light basic attacks without the combo-ender. It does slightly less maximum damage than normal, as the first two hits do not require tapping and swiping and always deal minimum damage. The whole special could only do 5/6 of the normal maximum damage. It also has very fast starting animation, effectively catching opponents off-guard.

Trivia

Raven Rebirth's passive

When teamed with Rebirth characters, her second passive icon appears (which is incorrectly labeled) after the enemy power siphon part of her passive, which is active regardless of teammates. Currently, this is "fixed" to showing only one icon instead.

  • Her artifacts are: Blades, Cape, Belt, Hood, and Feather.
  • She has the same base stats with Green Arrow/Rebirth.
  • The wording of her passive mistakenly referred to Energy when it actually is referring to Power. This was also a long-running problem for Superman/Man of Steel's passive, although it was eventually fixed.
  • Due to many complaints regarding Raven's SP1 of having to swipe multiple times, the developers have decided to remove the multiple swiping on this version of Raven, so you'd only to have swipe once and she'd hit twice this time.
    • However, this was reverted back to swiping twice in patch 2.19.
  • She's the only version of Raven to have a higher health stat than damage stat.
    • Additionally, she's the only version of Raven to only have a 1-hit Combo ender.
  • She is the only character in the game to have a passive requiring crit attacks to activate, the same can be said for Diablo Companion Card EVOLVED being the first gear to do so.
  • A random silver character is rewarded for completing the 10th battle of Challenge 4 in her Challenge.
  • She is the only version of Raven without a passive revolving around health.
