Rarity Base Stats Price Unlock
Gold 850/1,150 220,000 Challenge Mode, Red Son Pack, Nth Metal Pack, Phantom Zone reward (Elite)
Passive Red Son Energy Armor: Red Son characters on Green Lantern's team take 20% LESS Special Damage, and are IMMUNE to STUN and CRIT.

Red Son Green Lantern is the final and latest asset to the Red Son team. Serving as a guardian, he provides a powerful, all-rounded, team-wide defensive effect that makes Red Sons far more difficult to beat. While always popular, Red Son Green Lantern became even more useful with the 2.6 update, which added crit augments, allowing any character to crit on any attack with a significant crit damage boost, as well as another source of tag-in stun (LexCorp Gauntlets V2) which he can literally shrug off.

He can be unlocked through Challenge Mode. Otherwise, he can be obtained randomly from the Nth Metal Pack and Red Son Pack, but not in the Challenge Booster Pack. Nevertheless, obtaining him from a pack will not unlock him for direct Promotions.

Strategy

Basic Attacks

Basic combo Damage pattern (% of damage stat) Total (including Combo Ender)
Light (Combo Ender) 2% - 2% - 2% - 2% - (3%) 11%
Heavy 4% - 4% - 4% 12%

Passive

Green Lantern reduces damage taken from special attacks for all Red Son characters, including himself. It can stack with other sources of special or universal damage reduction, result in taking no damage from special attacks if reached 100%. Lastly, even though his passive says SPECIAL damage, it also mitigates super move damage by 20%.

EffectiveRedSontTEam

An example of an effective Red Sons team!

His passive's immunity to critical attacks has one exception: specials that temporarily summon teammates to perform attacks. Harley Quinn/Suicide Squad's special 2 may summon The Joker/Suicide Squad or The Joker/Unhinged Suicide Squad to attack, and Deathstroke/Flashpoint's specials may summon Batman/Flashpoint and Aquaman/Flashpoint to attack. The summoned character's attack can still crit (and as typical to those special attacks, the critical chance must be on the summoned character to work).

He is also immune to stun and takes 20% less damage from special attacks, making him a combination and therefore, a direct upgrade of both Batman/Beyond and General Zod/Man of Steel. Furthermore, as stated in his passive, he is able to share this protection to other Red Son teammates. His stun immunity can be bypassed by characters with Stun during special attacks, such as Batgirl's SP1.

Usually regarded as the backbone of Red Son teams, Green Lantern is the nightmare of stun or critical damage users such as Batman/Flashpoint. In high level gameplay, especially when player usually face enemy teams with critical damage augments in Online Battle, he is an invaluable asset to the team, being able to counter several dangerous characters such as Bane/Luchador, Flashpoint team, Earth 2 team and many more, who could have otherwise destroyed the player's team easily with their powerful crit and stun, especially when the attacks are empowered by Cloak of Destiny. Combining with his Red Son comrades such as Superman/Red Son or Wonder Woman/Red Son will further increase his threat level- he can then share his passive to the team while benefiting from their own passives, and because of this, it's recommended to always use him in a full Red Son team.

Gear

A good strategy for a good defense team with him is to equip 2/3 of the LexCorp Set (with at least the LexCorp Helmet Armor V2, for enhanced block - this counters any high-damage power drainers including Batman Ninja Catwoman), and the Killer Croc Companion Card EVOLVED and/or, if preferred to reflect back the damage at opponent, use the Scarecrow's Ventilator Mask for that purpose! The Fourth World Set is another classic setup for Green Lantern, granting him a resurrection, various other defensive effects, and allowing the use of his strong SP2.

Interactions

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Green Lantern. Having a card that "counters" Green Lantern does not mean it is always a good choice.

Good With

  • Any Red Son teammates as stated in his passive:
    • Solomon Grundy/Red Son: This is particularly effective because their different defensive mechanics stack multiplicatively instead of additively, giving their team effectively an 81.25% boost to maximum health against special attacks (although it is impossible to calculate their effectiveness against basic attacks due to variance of crits).
    • Batman/Red Son: Best for offense, as his unblockable chance on SP1 is a hassle for defensive teams to face.
    • Wonder Woman/Red Son: Best for offense, as she allows her Red Son comrades to gain power very quickly.
    • Superman/Red Son: Best all-rounder due to his damage boost, he also has the easiest to use basic attack combos, chaining SP2 after heavy combo, the highest base damage and second highest base health after Green Lantern himself, and the ability to regenerate a considerable amount of effective health from any healing gear.
    • Deathstroke/Red Son: With a full Red Son team being able to attack a total of 15% faster, it will aid Green Lantern/Red Son and Solomon Grundy/Red Son since they both attack slowly (mostly Solomon Grundy).
  • Jessica Cruz/Rebirth: He helps extend her powerful SP2.
  • Shazam/New 52: Green Lantern benefits from Shazam's passive, gaining 10%-25% universal damage reduction. Along with his own passive, Killer Croc Companion Card EVOLVED, and Batman Ninja Helmet, Green Lantern will become immune to special attack damage as long as he has at least 55% power.
  • Superman/New 52 & Wonder Woman/New 52: He counts as a Justice League member for their passives.

Good Against

  • Characters that can crit or stun, especially:
    • Deathstroke/Arkham Origins: Released shortly after Arkham Origins Deathstroke, Red Son Green Lantern's passive reduces special attack damage taken by 20% and grants immunity to critical attacks to all Red Son teammates, severely dampening Deathstroke's damage output.
    • Bane/Luchador, Cloak of Destiny, Hawkgirl/Earth 2, The Flash/Earth 2 & Batman/Flashpoint: All of their damage outputs are massively decreased without access to stun or critical hits.
    • Hawkgirl/Regime: Green Lantern and other Red Son characters teamed up with him can negate the otherwise very powerful critical damage from her SP2 and take less damage from it.
    • Batman/Batman Ninja: Green Lantern's immunity to critical damage significantly reduces the threat of Batman's passive and deadly SP2.
    • Scorpion/Mortal Kombat X: His DOT can't crit against Green Lantern's passive, making him ineffective against a full Red Son team.
    • Jessica Cruz/Rebirth: Green Lantern's immunity to stun negates Kilowog's stasis, allowing him and other Red Son teammates to retaliate without problems.
    • Batman/Beyond Animated: Green Lantern's passive negates the critical boosts from Batman's SP2 and Super Move, especially when he is used on a full Red Son team.
    • Batman/Arkham Knight: Green Lantern's passive negates the Critical Damage Waynetech buff of Batman as well as the stun chance on his SP1 and the threat level of Batman's powerful SP2 and super move.
    • Deathstroke/Flashpoint: Even though Deathstroke's Flashpoint teammates' assists on his special attacks ignore Green Lantern's critical immunity (and damage mitigation from special attacks), he is immune to Deathstroke's critical basic attacks.
  • Characters with strong special attacks as he can shrug them off in a full Red Son team.
  • Gears that can crit or stun, including:
    • Blade of The War God, Promethium Longsword and their equivalents: Crit on basic attacks means nothing to Green Lantern, especially with gears that reduce basic damage or increase block effectiveness.
    • Nth Metal Morningstar, Lexcorp Mechsuit and other gears that offer stun chance on SP1 or SP2: On top of being immune to stun, Green Lantern also receives 20% less damage from these special attacks.

Countered By

  • Black Adam/Regime: His passive allows him to reflect tremendous amounts of damage back to Red Son Green Lantern's team when he or his Red Son teammates use any special attacks, unaffected by his passive.
  • Raven/Prime: Her passive also ignores his defenses, and additionally Red Son teams lack a 1-hit SP2 to take her down without triggering it.
  • Characters with stun in the middle of their special attacks: This stun will bypass his passive, and the damage can be magnified if equipped with Cloak of Destiny.
    • Batgirl: All 3 versions of Batgirl have a small stun at the beginning on their special 1, which is not negated by Green Lantern's passive. Additionally, Batgirl/Cassandra Cain deals 25% of enemy current health as damage upon tagging in, also unaffected by Green Lantern's passive.
    • Batman/Batman Ninja: Same with Batgirl, but with Batman's SP2 instead.
  • Green Arrow/Prime & Green Arrow/Arrow: Both of these versions of Green Arrow have a FREEZE arrow that can still immobilize Green Lantern and his Red Son comrades, leaving them vulnerable to unblocked attacks if the freeze arrow is not blocked.
  • Deathstroke/Flashpoint: Flashpoint teammates' assists on his special attacks ignore Green Lantern's critical immunity (and damage mitigation from special attacks).
  • Harley Quinn/Suicide Squad: She can summon Joker on her SP2, dealing damage that ignores Green Lantern's critical immunity and damage mitigation, similar to Flashpoint Deathstroke's teammate assists.
  • Characters and gears with strong DOT (that don't rely on crit unlike Scorpion/Mortal Kombat X): Green Lantern can't reduce DOT damage associated with special attacks. For example:
    • Catwoman/Arkham Knight: Her powerful bleed is not mitigated by Green Lantern's passive especially when she is used in a full Arkham Knight team. In addition, bleeding causes the target to take 20% more damage, which cancels out his damage reduction and makes him take normal special attack damage.
    • The Joker/Arkham Origins: Same as Catwoman albeit more flexible with teammates; if put in a full Arkham team, his poison will be very powerful. Having Quake Engine equipped prevents affected opponents from rinsing the DOT by tagging out, and can reapply it to the next Red Son.
    • The Ibistick: Often considered to be the most powerful source of DOT, it can inflict burn that deals damage proportionate to enemy's max health.
  • Characters with powerful basic attacks that don't rely on crit, especially:
    • Batman/Beyond Animated: Although his special damage is reduced, his SP1 will provide temporary basic damage boost, dealing tons of damage to the Red Son team.
    • Superman/New 52: His massive 300% damage boost to basic attacks can wreck the enemy team without using special or critical attacks.
    • Catwoman/Batman Ninja: As long as her Cat Rage passive is active, Catwoman can deal significant basic damage without requiring crit.

Abilities

Here are Green Lantern's abilities.

Ability Classification Description Usage
Turbine Smash First Special Green Lantern Green Lantern materializes a jet turbine engine, then slams it into his target. Rapid Tap
Guardian Second Special Green Lantern knocks around his opponent as if they were a toy Swipe (x2)
Beware My Power Super Move Green Lantern unleashes a beatdown through the power of his ring. UNBLOCKABLE. Tap

His special 1 has very short range and will miss if executed from long distance.

There is a bug that sometimes causes Guardian's last hit to be impossible to block, despite not having any source of Unblockable effect, similarly to the last hit of Batman/Beyond Animated's Future Bat. This can work well with the Fourth World Godly Mace's power drain on SP2.

Trivia

  • His artifacts are: Pilot Helmet, Brick Wall, Pilot Gloves, Gatling Gun and Boots.
  • His passive will physically manifest as green armor on all affected Red Son teammates, including himself. This makes him the second character to visually alter other characters through their passive, after Darkseid/Prime.
  • At release, players were banned upon obtaining him as Netherrealm neglected to remove him from their "unreleased characters" list.
  • With this character, the most damage from a Special Attack that the player can reduces is up to 90%. This can only be done if the player equip the Killer Croc Companion Card EVOLVED gear onto him (reduces 30% of a Special's damage), along with the LexCorp Helmet V2 (reduces up to 40% of a Special's damage if blocked), for a total of 90%.
