Basic attacks are the most universally used attacks and are available to every single character at any level. They are performed by tapping (light) or swiping (heavy) the screen. Light basic attacks are faster, but heavy basic attacks do more damage.

Mechanics[]

There is a fixed number of light or heavy basic attacks in a character's attack pattern, after which their opponent is knocked back or down and further basic attacks cannot hit them until they are targetable again.

The basic attack pattern varies between characters, but the majority of characters have the following combos. Damage is given in a percentage of their Damage stat, prior to any effects that modify basic attacks:

The Combo Ender is a unique form of a basic attack; it is usually, but not always, offered after completing 3 light basic attacks.

Most basic attacks can only hit targets in melee distance. Hitting an opponent with basic attacks generate power.

Block reduces damage taken from basic attacks by 25%, and if the AI blocks, it also interrupts your basic combo, only allowing you to use the first hit (The Flash, Batgirl/Cassandra Cain and Batgirl/Arkham Knight are unique in that they can do 2 hits) except Scorpion/Klassic, who can perform full heavy combo even when blocked.

Some characters can chain their basic combo to special attacks, landing specials unblocked.

Many gears provide damage and crit chance boost for basic attack such as Blade of The War God and Promethium Longsword. Ra's al Ghul's Scimitar, Overpowered 5-U-93-R, League of Assassins Adept Blade and Gauntlets of Azrael also provide Power Drain and/or Life Drain on Combo Ender. Some gears also provide Unblockable chance for basic attack. The Master's Death Cart deals Area Effect damage on combo ender. Massive Sharpened Teeth may stun on combo ender.

Some characters have unique effects on combo ender (for more detail, see that page). Deathstroke/Flashpoint has extra hits on combo ender for each Flashpoint teammates.

Juggling is a technique that allows the character to continuously connect or juggle his/her basic attacks, making the opponent unable to retaliate. The opponent can still retaliate though through blocking and performing either basic attacks or a Special, albeit it is very difficult for the opponent to do so.

Counter[]

Damage reduction such as Gingold Soda and Nightwing/Regime can help reduce basic attack damage. Batman/Gaslight and The Flash/Blackest Night can cause basic attacks to miss. Superman/Godfall can reflect basic attack damage back to the attacker. Invulnerability can protect character from enemy's attacks, including basic attack. Black Adam/Prime and Black Adam/Regime can interrupt and reflect basic combo.
